Colorado/Wyoming Chapter of the AATG


I. NAME

The name of the chapter shall be the Colorado-Wyoming Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of German.

II. PURPOSE

The purpose of the Chapter conforms to that of the national organization. It proposes to promote and improve the teaching of German in the area covered by this Chapter and to encourage a spirit of cooperation and fellowship among its members.

III. MEMBERSHIP

A. Any teacher of German or anyone interested in the teaching of German may join the Chapter and the national association upon payment of the annual dues as specified by the By-Laws of the national association. No one can be a member of a chapter alone. All chapter members belong to the national association. Membership will be retained by the continued payment of the annual dues.

B. The annual dues, which include subscription to the official publication of the national association are payable in September of the membership year for which they are intended. Only members in good standing may exercise the privileges of membership.

C. Graduate and undergraduate students who are certified by the chairperson of their department may become Junior Members upon payment of the annual dues for Junior Membership.

D. A teacher who at the time of retirement has been a member of AATG for at least fifteen years may elect Emeritus Membership. The dues for this type of membership are defined in the By-Laws of the national organization.

E. Honorary membership in the AATG may be granted only in accordance with the stipulations in the national constitution.

IV. OFFICERS AND ELECTIONS

A. The officers of the chapter are the president, the president-elect, and the secretary/treasurer. Their duties are in accord with Robert's Rules of Order.

B. Terms of office shall be for two years, and no one may serve as an officer in any capacity for more than two consecutive terms. The president-elect serves in that capacity for one year and as chapter president for the second year of the two year term.

C. Should vacancies arise, there shall be an election by the general membership if the term is less than half completed with the remaining members of the Executive Council (president, president-elect, secretary/treasurer) acting as nominating committee. If the term is more than half completed, the Executive Council shall fill the vacant position by appointment.

D. The nominating committee shall consist of at least three persons to be appointed by the Executive Council. The committee shall receive suggestions for nominations from the membership and shall present at least two candidates for the offices. Members of the nomination committee may not be current members of the chapter leadership, and the committee should include, if possible, representatives from different teaching levels.

E. The slate of candidates shall be made known to all chapter members at least three weeks prior to the time of election.

F. Election shall be completed by May 1 and shall be conducted by secret ballot of all chapter members.

V. ADMINISTRATION

The adrninistration of the Chapter shall be in the hands of the Executive Council. In addition, the past president of the Chapter shall be a member of the Executive Council for one year following the expired term. There will be a representative from the state of Wyoming on the Executive Council at all times. That representative will be chosen from the membership living in Wyoming.

VI. MEETINGS

A. The Chapter shall meet at least two times a year. The time and place of meetings shall be determined by the president after due consultation with the Executive Council.

B. Upon written request, ten or more members of the Chapter may request that a meeting be called by the president.

VII. AMENDMENTS

The Constitution of the Chapter may be amended by a two-thirds vote of members present at any regular meeting. Such amendments may be proposed by the Executive Council or by written notice to the Executive Council by at least four members of the Chapter not later than two months in advance of the meeting at which action is to be taken. The secretary shall submit such proposed amendments to the membership at lease three weeks prior to the time of final action.

VIII. BY-LAWS

By-Laws may be adopted or changed at any annual meeting of the Chapter by majority of the members present, provided that written notice of the proposed changes is sent to all the members at least three weeks prior to such meeting.
