9th Annual CCFLT Videotaped Speaking Contest

This is a fantastic opportunity for students of CCFLT members to create a 90-second videotape of themselves in a conversation with another student. Conversations should be based on the Colorado Foreign Language Model Content Standard, 1.2-Speaking. Students will do one or more of the following: express needs, tell stories, obtain and convey information, explain concepts and procedures, and/or persuade.

Pairs of students will create, present, and record an original conversation. They may determine the topic of their conversation, but they must follow Standard 1.2 mentioned above. Their presentation will be assessed according to the Colorado State Foreign Language Model Content Standards.

Prizes will be awarded in each language at each level - beginner, intermediate, advanced, extension, and heritage speaker - to students who create the best video in VHS or DVD format. All students will receive a certificate for participating. Only teachers who are members of CCFLT may submit entries. Each teacher is allowed to send 2 videos per language, per level. We are sorry that we are unable to accept presentations done in 16 mm, beta, or any other format other than VHS or DVD.

Please fill out the entry form below. Teachers determine the level that is appropriate for their students -- beginner, intermediate, advanced, extension, or heritage speaker.

The guidelines and rubrics are available on the links below and give all the information necessary to organize your students and explain how the students will be assessed. You are encouraged to assess your students' video conversation before you submit it. Each entry must be comprised of two on-camera students. Each student must wear a name tag or a tag with either the number 1 or 2 on it, visible to the judges. Videos with only one student performing, or three or more students performing, will be disqualified. In addition, you are encouraged to have your students assess each others' entries using the same rubrics prior to sending in their entries.

Please send your students' videotapes or DVDs to: CCFLT Video Contest Chair, Ruth Warner, c/o Windsor High School, 1100 W. Main Street, P.O. Box 609, Windsor, CO 80550. Board members' students may compete in competitions sponsored by CCFLT, but board members may not be on the judging committee. Video entries must be postmarked no later than December 1, 2009. Note: Videos will not be returned by mail. However, if you would like your students' tapes back, you may pick them up at the Spring Conference. If you have any questions, please contact Ruth Warner at ruth.warner@weldre4.k12.co.us.
