10th Annual CCFLT Videotaped Speaking Contest

This is a fantastic opportunity for students of CCFLT members to show-off their speaking skills by creating a 90-second videotape of themselves in a conversation with another student!

Judging Criteria:

  • Pairs of students will create, present, and record an original conversation. Conversations should focus on interactions with one another as opposed to a "commercial-mode" presentation.
  • Students may determine the topic of their conversation, but they must follow the skills detailed in the new Colorado State World Language Standards.
  • Specific guidelines and rubrics are available on the links below and give all the information necessary to organize your students and explain how the students will be assessed.

Performance Details:

  • Each entry must be comprised of two on-camera students.
  • Each student must wear a name tag or a tag with either the number "1" or "2" on it, visible to the judges.
  • Videos with only one student performing, or three or more students performing, will be disqualified.  * Note - You are encouraged to assess the videos and/or have students assess each other’s entries, using the appropriate rubric, prior to sending in your submission(s).

Awards:

  • First Place will be awarded in each language, at each level - novice low – novice mid (beginner), novice high – intermediate low (intermediate), intermediate mid (advanced), and heritage speakers.  These students will receive a certificate and a $10 gift card.
  • All students will receive a certificate for participating.

Entry Details and Process:

  • Only teachers who are members of CCFLT may submit entries. * Note - Board members' students may compete in competitions sponsored by CCFLT, but board members may not be on the judging committee.
  • Each teacher may send up to two (2) videos per language, per level.
  • Videos must be submitted on VHS or DVD (DVD is preferred).  No other formats will be accepted.  *Note - if submitting on DVD, please view the product on multiple computers to ensure that the DVD will play.  Also, please be certain to record on a DVD and not on a CD.
  • Please fill out the entry form below.  Teachers determine the level that is appropriate for their students.

Deadline:

  • Video entries must be postmarked no later than December 1, 2010.  * Note - Videos will not be returned by mail.  If you would like your students' submissions back, you may pick them up at the Spring Conference.

If you have any questions, please contact Rebecca Schwerdtfeger at Rebecca.Schwerdtfeger@D51Schools.org.

Please send your students' videotapes or DVDs to:  CCFLT Video Contest Chair, Rebecca Schwerdtfeger, 2523 Patterson Rd., Grand Junction, CO 81505.
