Attendees will get a chance to explore the library on their own and ask questions.
Sessions IB & 2B - "And the Stars Align…AI + CI”
Presenter: Noemi Rodriguez
Description: How can we use Generative AI to lead with Acquisition Driven Instruction through Comprehensible Input? Let’s S.O.A.R with AI + CI! In this workshop, explore the powerful fusion of acquisition-driven instruction (CI) and Generative AI tools for world language teaching. Discover innovative strategies to design comprehensible input activities and resources that captivate learners while facilitating language acquisition. Leave with a toolkit of practical ideas and resources to integrate Generative AI into your classroom and redefine language learning for your students!
Session 2A - "Tackling Differentiated Instruction in Language Teaching: From Project Based Learning to AI Driven Practices”
Presenters: Dr. Katherine Brown and Dr. Alegría Ribadeneira
Description: Differentiated instruction can be a challenge for language instructors, especially in courses where students have varying proficiency levels. Presenters will share some fundamentals of differentiated instruction and concrete examples of how they use best practices including task-based, project-based, and community-based instruction. Finally, they will share how they use AI to create level-appropriate content for different students in the same classroom, and how they design prompts that students can use to practice oral conversations with chatbots at their level.
Session 3A - “Upping your Interculturality Game with AI”
Presenter: Jillian Lykens
Description: The mention of AI in the classroom can trigger thoughts of doom and gloom. But this session will show how to harness the powers of AI to build students’ language proficiency through the lens of interculturality, giving them the opportunity to dive more deeply into the target culture while building their communicative skills in all three modes. Using AI as a springboard, educators can take their students beyond investigating the three Ps of products, practices, and perspectives and allow them to truly interact effectively. The magic of AI is out there; why not use it to your students’ advantage?
Session 3B - “AI-Driven Lesson Magic: Crafting Engaging Lessons with ChatGPT”
Presenter: Dr. Paola Valladares
Description: In this breakout session, you'll explore how to use AI to streamline lesson planning through backward design. This workshop offers hands-on experience with tools and strategies to generate practical, engaging world language lessons. By the end, you'll walk out with ready-to-use, engaging lesson or unit plans that are immediately applicable in your classroom, all crafted with the help of AI.
