The Seal of Biliteracy (SoBL)
What is the Seal of Biliteracy?
A Seal of Biliteracy is a state and local school district recognition for graduating high school students who can demonstrate a high level of proficiency in at least one world language and English by high school graduation. The State of Colorado adopted the Seal of Biliteracy for High School Diplomas on March 30, 2017, setting the minimum criteria for districts to develop their own process and criteria.
The Seal of Biliteracy is important because it will...
-
honor both the achievement of language acquisition and the heritage language, culture and experience students may already possess,
-
encourage students to pursue the acquisition of another language or languages, and
-
give future employers and post-secondary institutions definitive evidence of their language skills.
